Eat or Heat launches, supporting people forced to choose between food and fuel
Eat or Heat, a fund to help people who are faced with the desperate choice of feeding their family or heating their home, has launched.
With support from Teaching Staff Trust, we have created a campaign to raise funds for families and individuals most in need. Charities across the UK can apply for a £25 food or energy voucher, from the available funds, on behalf of anyone they know to be struggling.
Here at C Supplies, we will be donating to the fund throughout the year, and we would love any individual or business who is in a position to donate to get involved and join us.
As C Supplies Founder, Tony Bates, explains:
“Nearly 4 million children and 10 million adults in the UK can’t afford regular meals, and almost 8 million households will experience fuel poverty by April. Many are too fearful to put their heating on because they simply can’t pay for it. Many are going hungry instead.
We work with UK charities and grant-giving organisations on a daily basis and can see how desperate the situation really is. We wanted to do something to directly help people known to charities, as being in dire need.
We’re appealing to anyone who can, to join us and donate through our Just Giving page. Every donation will make a genuine difference to people faced with the impossible decision of heating their homes or feeding themselves and their children.”
The current crisis is affecting everyone from small children to the elderly, and as Judith Smith from Teaching Staff Trust comments:
“I’m so pleased to have worked with the team at C Supplies to bring the Eat or Heat campaign to fruition. At the Teaching Staff Trust, we have seen a very marked increase in the applications from people who simply cannot make ends meet at the moment (however hard they are trying) – more so than ever before, in my experience. This is something that will make a small difference to them, whether it be in the form of some money for fuel and utilities or a small amount to help them to supplement their food bill. And that small difference won’t just help practically but it will also help them to feel just a bit more supported.”
The Eat or Heat fund will be open for as long as it receives support, directly focusing on helping people to fill their fridge, or top up their energy supply.
